German Studies – S.Hum.

Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Cultural Sciences offers an undergraduate study program in German Studies. Graduates of this program will attain the Sarjana Humaniora (S.Hum.) title. The program has received the A accreditation from BAN-PT, the national body of higher education accreditation in Indonesia. The duration of the study is 8 semesters. The program is taught at the Jatinangor Campus in Sumedang.

Unpad’s German Studies program continues to thrive and cater to the high demands and interest from the public towards studying German language and literature. This is evidenced by the continuous increase of the total number of registrants to the program each year. Graduates of Unpad’s German Studies program have also proved to be competitive in their fields, both nationally and internationally, keeping in line with the vision of the university and faculty in becoming internationally competitive institutions.

Curriculum

The curriculum of the program includes courses teaching basic skills to build the students’ proficiency in German, namely listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Afterwards, students are taught subjects pertaining specifically to German Studies, including linguistics, literature, and translation. The students may also take courses which teach supplementary applied skills such as German for Tourism, and German for Business. The students of the program will also specialize in either linguistics or literature as their study progresses.

Collaborations

Unpad’s German Studies program collaborates intensively with various Germany-oriented associations in Indonesia, including the Indonesischer Germanistenverband (IGV) and Indonesian Linguistics Society (MLI).

Beyond the national level, the German Studies program have built a fruitful relationship with associations such as the IVG, International Association of Pragmatics (IPRA), DAAD, and Goethe Institut. All of these collaboration are part of an effort to realize the program’s mission of internationalization.
