Biology – S.Si.

Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences offers an undergraduate study program in Biology. Graduates of this program will attain the Sarjana Sains (S.Si.) title. The program has received the A accreditation from BAN-PT, the national body of higher education accreditation in Indonesia. The duration of the study is 8 semesters. The program is taught at the Jatinangor Campus in Sumedang.

The program’s curriculum is made up of courses which hone the students’ knowledge and skills in different areas. The courses themselves serve to instruct the students in six different competency areas, ranging from general courses taught all across Unpad, to fundamental understanding of the science of biology in accordance with Indonesia’s biological diversity and national curriculum standards, to practical knowledge in specialized and applied subdisciplines in biology as well as transferable multidisciplinary skills from programs such as MBKM or student exchanges.

The knowledge gained by students of the program is based on, and builds upon, the principles of the basic science of biology. The program’s strengths in research is demonstrated through their exploration of natural resources, either from living organisms or otherwise, as well as the environment and ecosystem service. This can be seen through the active participation of many professors, graduates, and students in the numerous research projects exploring every facet of biological science, all made possible by their mastery of research methodologies imparted by the curriculum.

Career Prospects

The skills taught in the undergraduate Biology program equips its graduates to work in a myriad of fields, institutions, and sectors. The many professions to have been taken up by graduates include:

  1. Working directly within a field of biology in institutions such as the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology, LIPI, pharmaceutical companies, laboratories, and Nongovernmental Organizations.
  2. Applying their knowledge in related disciplines such as agriculture, marine science, mining, and education.
  3. Working independently as an entrepreneur.
