[Unpad.ac.id, 19/06/2016] Building leadership in the student organization should not only relate to how to lead, but also the ability to be led. Building leadership also means developing the ability to lead yourself before you can lead others, respectfully.

The above was said by members of the Board of Trustees, Universitas Padjadjaran, a former Unpad student activist, Abah Iwan Abdulrahman, to the boards of student organizations in Unpad, in a discussion of student role in the campus development, held in the Multipurpose Room Building 1, 3rd floor Unpad, Jln. Dipati Ukur No. 35 Bandung, Sunday (6/19). Also in attendance was Rector Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad and Director of Student Affairs and Alumni, Dr. Ir. Herryawan Kemal Mustafa, M.Sc.

On the occasion, Abah Iwan also revealed the importance of building a culture of respect. This respect should grow not out of fear of, from within oneself.

“There is a sense of respect that we need to nurture back consciously and deliberately within each of us, so that we are more advanced than now,” he said.

Meanwhile, in front of the students, Rector reminded about the importance of academic traits in any student activities. All the activities undertaken by the students should also constitute academic activities.

“Student activities and academic activities are inseparable,” said Rector.

Thus, in carrying out activities, including student organizations, student characteristics as a learner need to be shown continuously. Carrying out student activities should not be separated from the curriculum guide.

“Everything we do indeed needs to have academic strengths or characteristics,” said Rector. *
