Universitas Padjadjaran signs MoU with the National Commission on Human Rights

[Unpad.ac.id, 22/10/2013] Universitas Padajadjaran signed an agreement of cooperation (Memoranda of Understanding) with the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM). This was done in the multi-purpose room in the 4th floor of Unpad campus in Bandung during the event of 2013’s International Legal Conference (PILC). The cooperation was signed by vice-rector of The PPM and cooperation Unpad, Dr. med. Setiawan, rr., with the chairperson of the National Commission on Human Rights, Siti Noor Laila.

The cooperation plan will be collaboration between research and development, and involve the Faculty of Law (FH), the National Commission on Human Rights, and some other practitioners engaged with human rights issues. Setiawan further revealed that the cooperation between Unpad Faculty of Law and Komnas HAM has actually long been going.

Before this, Unpad Faculty of Law and National Commission on Human Rights have formed Human Rights Advocacy Center or PAHAM (Pusat Advokasi Hak Asasi Manusia). “I think it is also part of a good collaboration to review the regional perspectives of human rights,” said Setiawan.

Studies on human rights by students, researchers, and lecturers of Universitas Padjadjaran should also be developed because it is important for the continuity of the collaboration. In addition to that, according to Dr. Setiawan, another form of the collaboration could be done through facilitating National Commission on Human Rights staff members to continue their studies in Unpad.

Dr. Setiawan hopes the cooperation with the National Commission on Human Rights will result in a real implementation of a clear road map over the next 5 years. Responding to this, the dean of Unpad Faculty of Law, Dr. Sigid Suseno, S.H., M.H., would gladly facilitate the cooperation.
