[Unpad Media Channel] Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Padjadjaran helds a public lecture titled “Strengthening Education and Collaboration between Indonesia and Ukraine: Opportunities and Challenges” at the Seminar Room, FISIP Unpad, Jatinangor, Tuesday (9/1/2024). The public lecture is delivered by The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Indonesia Dr. Vasyl Hamianin.

The Dean of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Universitas Padjadjaran, Prof. Dr. R. Widya Setiabudi S., S.IP., S.Si., M.T., M.Si (Han), said that even though Ukraine was not quite popular than Western European Countries as a study destination for students, but this country ranked fourth in the number of higher education graduates in Europe.

Therefore, he hoped if the cooperation between Indonesia and Ukraine had the best result.

“I believe that good long-term higher education cooperation between the two countries is one way to get to know, understand, and support each other between the two countries,” he said.

In the public lecture participated by many academics and students of FISIP Unpad, Vasyl explained about educational system in Ukraine. “Education system in Ukraine is quite developed and we pay a lot of attention to that. I guess over 60% of Ukrainians have higher education,” he said.

Vasyl added that Ukraine educational system was designed to be accessible to people in Ukraine and in the world. “That’s why I do hope that as we’re building up the relationship between the universities in Ukraine and in other countries,” he hoped.

The Ambassador who also a lecturer also explained that teacher only gave guidance and knowledge. On the other side, the main responsibility is in independent study.

Thus, in the educational system and process, it is significant for every individuals not to trapped in disinformation, conspiracy theory, and misleading thoughts.

“Always think critically and never hesitate to ask the questions,” he suggested.

Moreover, he hoped that one day, the cooperation between Indonesia and Ukraine could be established, particularly in the field of education. Indonesian students are hoped to study in Ukraine after the war is over and the situation is safe for foreign students.

“I have no doubts that you will enjoy it, it’s good place to be, Ukraine,” he invited. (arm/SA)*
