Unpad and BATAN sign memo of understanding to develop nuclear technology research

[Unpad.ac.id, 4/07/2013] National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN) in cooperation with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Unpad organized Seminar on Science and Nuclear 2013 on Thursday (4/07) at Grha Sanusi Hardjadinata, Unpad, Bandung. There were 500 participants joining the seminar who ranged from researchers, institution representatives, stakeholders, to university students.

Head of the seminar’s committee, Haryo Seno, S.ST. said that the seminar on the theme “The Utilization of Nuclear Science and Technology, along with the Roles of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in Health, Environment, and Industry for the Sustainable Development” is intended for ideas exchange on various research findings on nuclear science and technology.

Similar to Seno, the Head of BATAN,Prof. Dr. Djarot S. Wisnubroto expressed his idea saying that the utilization of nuclear science and technology should be supported by academic researchers, including those from Unpad. This is because nuclear potential is predicted to be beneficial for various communities in Indonesia.  “We also offer a joint-operation for Unpad’s lecturers, researchers, and students to use laboratories and facilities at BATAN for their researches and final projects, said Prof. Wisnubroto.

Unpad’s Rector, Prof. Ganjar Kurnia in his speech opening the seminar showed his appreciation the cooperation proposal, saying that joint-operation is crucial for the science and technology development as had been operated by researchers from FMIPA Unpad and BATAN where they had taken part in researches carried out by both institutions. He also added that there is an effort to change the paradigm on research in Unpad and hoped that it will result in beneficial research findings and qualified human resources for sustainable development.

The seminar also presented Deputy of Science and Technology Resources, Ministry of Research and Technology, Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Freddy Permana Zen, M.Sc., D.Sc., and researcher from ANSTO (Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization), Prof. D.D. Cohen as keynote speakers with Prof. Kurnia and Prof. Wisnubroto, and participants presenting their papers. A Memo of Understanding regarding joint-researches was also signed in the same occasion involving BATAN and Unpad, FMIPA Unpad, Faculty of Geology Unpad, Faculty of Agriculture Unpad, and Unpad Medical School.
