The Government Enables Students to Go to Unpad Medical School

[Unpad.ac.id, 11/06/2013] Siska Armeinesya, Muhamad Faisal, and Vera Amalia Lestari showed up with joyous feeling to Bale Santika Unpad Jatinangor on Tuesday (11/06) where the administrative registration for Unpad prospective students from Bidikmisi Program was organized. They were accepted in Unpad Medical School.

Along with three of them, there were also 34 other students who were admitted through Bidikmisi Program in Unpad Medical School from the capacity of 150 medical students. They, along with other 900 students accepted in various study programs, passed the program funded by the government.

Siska Armeinesya graduated from SMAN 1 Gunung Talang, Solok, West Sumatera. Her father, a primary school graduate, sells bakery for living, while her mother is a homemaker. In her high school, Siska was one of the eminent students whose school tuition was paid by the local government. She had always been in the top 3 in her class since she was in the first grade.

Muhamad Faisal graduated from SMA Al Masthuriyah Sukabumi, West Java who had always been in top of his school. His mother, a homemaker, is a primary school graduate, while his father works as a construction worker and an underemployed worker for various jobs.

Vera Amalia Lestari graduated from SMAN 1 Majalengka, West Java who, like Faisal, consistently got the highest grade in her school. Her father works in construction in Jakarta who previously worked in company’s plantation and plantation in Borneo. Her mother is also a homemaker.

“If we want to succeed, we do not have think about the money we have to spend first. It is more important to accomplish because as far as I know, there are many colleges providing scholarships, just like this Bidikmisi program,” said Siska encouraging her juniors with the same financial difficulty. The same thought was also expressed by Faisal who once had to face financial problem funding his private school tuition. He was fortunate that the school gave exemption. He also worked for various jobs and as a tutor for primary school students. Vera also expressed her gratitude for getting admitted with Bidikmisi fund saying that she does not have to ask to her parents for school tuition anymore. In high school, she sometimes had to rely on prize money from scientific tournaments.

These three Unpad new students claimed that they have always wanted to be a doctor since they were a child. One of their reasons is that the limited health access in their place. Thus, they have committed to serve in their place giving health access for those who are less fortunate.
