[Unpad Media Channel] A group of Universitas Padjadjaran students, comprising Phoenix Unpad (Padjadjaran High Level Organization In New Age Research), was awarded the Special Awards by the Ministry of Health of Malaysia. The award was given at the ITEX 2024 competition held in Malaysia on May 16-18, 2024.

Furthermore, the team also won silver at the World Young Inventors Exhibition (WYIE) 2024 held by the Malaysian Inventors and Design Society (MINDS).

The Phoenix Unpad team is made up of Asep Wirayasa, Faiza Shifa Medina, Frizal Harna Faturrachman, and Rizky Ramadan Sayyid Zenyda, all coming from the Faculty of Medicine. The team also consists of Muhammad Arrasyid Firdaus Riyadi from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and Najwa Amalia Mansoor from the Faculty of Economics and Business.

Asep revealed to Unpad Media Channel that, at the WYIE event, the team presented a tool for measuring estrogen levels named BioSweat. BioSweat is able to measure a woman’s estrogen levels using sweat, in turn measuring her fertility.

“Its function is to measure someone’s fertility by setting up and using the gadget. You only have to stick it to your arm for less than 10 seconds, and the figures should show up,” said Asep.

The competition started with the showcase of prototypes of each team’s innovative product, as well as presenting the product posters to the judges for scoring.

In addition, at ITEX 2024, the team brought their product, from which a company profile presentation was designed to be shown to the judges.

In preparation, the team had to formulate the exact mechanism of their tool, how to create one with high accuracy, as well as go through the process of turning their product into a viable business.

Asep and his team garnered positive reactions from Malaysia’s Ministry of Health regarding the company profile they presented. The Ministry also gave positive feedback by saying that the presented product could be wide-reaching in its application and benefit people greatly.

“The Special Award is given by the Ministry of Health, who only awarded two medals. The two medals were awarded to two teams, from the total of five hundred. Alhamdulillah, we can bring this one back to Unpad,” said Asep.

Before the competition, the team continuously honed their presentation so it could be well-structured and interesting for the judges. The team also prepared a list of potential question which might be asked by the judges, in order to make their presentation more fluent.

Asep hoped that Unpad students could continue to develop themselves and be brave in trying many new things. He also passed on his message for students to not be afraid of continuously experimenting and trying their best.

“So try and utilize every resource available. I feel Unpad has been great in providing the facilities for us to excel and achieve,” explained Asep. (arm/ICP)*
