[Unpad Media Channel] A doctoral student of Unpad’s Environmental Sciences program, Desty Pratiwi, M.IL., participated in the 10th World Water Forum held in Bali on May 18-25.

“The Forum consisted of discussions, research presentations, workshops, high-level conferences, fairs, and knowledge sharing. The Forum aimed to present, review, and discuss important issues regarding water, and formulating recommended solutions to advance the sustainability and global supply of water,” said Desty in a release received by Unpad Media Channel.

In the Forum, Desty had the opportunity to present her research on freshwater. The research focused on water quality surveillance and sustainable management of water resources.

Desty is a recipient of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology’s PMDSU scholarship. Her contribution in the Forum is expected to potentially extend the impact of her research and positively affect the development of water management strategies in Indonesia and abroad.

“The Forum could increase our global reputation through discussions, networking, and partnerships with stakeholders, as well as strengthening the international collaboration itself,” said Desty.

She added that water plays a significant ecological, social, and economic role for humans in reaching an optimal level of welfare.

“The Forum is a leading global platform to share knowledge, experiences, and innovations surrounding water resource management which is attended by experts, practitioners, and policy makers from all over the world,” she said.

Furthermore, she added that the stakeholders’ participation, coming from many institutions including Unpad, showed their commitment in supporting the global effort to preserve and manage water resources more wisely.

Currently, Desty is going through her third semester in Unpad’s Doctoral program in Environmental Sciences. So far, she has published her research in a number of renowned international journals, such as Water, Ecological Indicators, and Biodiversitas. (release/ICP)*
