[Unpad Media Channel] A laboratory personnel from Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Agroindustrial Technology (FTIP), Tia Amina Setiawati, M.Si., won gold at the 2024 International Laboratory Innovation Seminar (NaLIS) held by Universiti Malaysia Terengganu on May 6-7.

Tia explained, in an interview with Unpad Media Channel, that the biennial event is a seminar for lab staff of Malaysian universities. However, the organizers also invite lab staff from Indonesia to participate.

“In truth, I didn’t think I would win an award [for my presentation]. I only set out to gain some experience, as well as build connections and make friends while I was there. Alhamdulillah, there, I made many new friends and connections with a few who were in attendance,” said Tia.

In front of the presentation judges, Tia had an opportunity to deliver her presentation themed around method validation. The material she presented was based on lab data available at Unpad FTIP.

Tia added that she needed, more or less, a month to collect data in preparation for the presentation. Furthermore, she also prepared the paper and poster she would showcase alongside the presentation.

“The problem was having to divide my time as I also had to prepare data for faculty accreditation. But, alhamdulillah, I could still allocate time for my other project. Although I only had a month, I could get through it thanks to God,” said Tia.

Tia hopes that her participation in this international event has motivated other lab personnel in Unpad to expand their horizons. Furthermore, such things would require support from everyone involved in Unpad to provide the room and opportunities for lab personnel and other staff to continue developing themselves.

Aside from that, participation in the seminar is also expected to motivate Unpad staff to grow even further through any avenue they would like.

Tia expressed her gratitude toward Unpad FTIP and her team which have given her the opportunity and helped her in preparing for the seminar.

“I want to thank the faculty, because I feel like FTIP have given me the chance and room for me to innovate and be creative. Also, I would also like to thank my colleagues at the Testing Services Laboratory who have helped me in constructing my material, whether during the research or the writing,” she concluded.
