Public and Media to Monitor the Election Process of Unpad Rector

The visit was conducted to socialize a series of Rector Election (Pilrek) activities which is started this month.

Prof. Erri said that socialization is done considering the process of election of rector this time is different from the previous one. With the change of status of Unpad as now a State-Run University with a Legal Entity Status, election process has been adjusted with its new status.

“It used to be done by the University Senate, while it is now by the Board of Trustees,” said. Prof. Erri.

In this year also, Prof. Erri continued, the candidates are open to the public, it has an equal opportunity with those who have worked with Unpad. However, there are a number of specific requirements that must be met by prospective applicants.

These requirements include a minimum of Doctorate degree, at least having an academic position as Head Lecturer from accredited domestic universities or overseas universities that are recognized by the relevant ministry.

Prof. Erri said, this open registration allows candidates from various regions in Indonesia. Nevertheless, they must have a concern for Sundanese culture and progress of West Java.

Accordingly, it is expected media as a strategic partner of the university in order to disseminate this election process as well as the public is expected to provide input related to the quality of prospective applicants for the betterment of Unpad in the future.

The visit was officially accepted by Chief Editor of the Pikiran Rakyat Rahim Asyik Fajar Awanto, Deputy Chief Editor Erwin Kustiman, and Editor of Education Bureau Ida Farida. While representatives of Unpad were the Chairman of 2019-2024 Rector Election Committee Prof. Dr. Hj. Diana Harding, M.Si., Vice Chairman Prof. Yanyan M. Yani, and members of the Election Committee.

Meanwhile, Rahim appreciated the visit and stated his commitment to escort the process of election starting from the registration until the election to be held next October.

“We must gain more parties to put this election as a major public agenda,” said Rahim.

In this visit, Prof. Diana explained further about the mechanism of the election which includes candidate selection, administrative selection, medical examination, competency test, stipulation of rector candidate, election process and stipulation of rector elect, until the inauguration of new rector in April 2019. *
