PSM Unpad Won the International Choir Competition in Bali

[unpad.ac.id, 30/7/2018] Students Choir of Padjadjaran University (PSM Unpad)  won the overall title or “Grand Champion” in “7th Bali International Choir Festival (BICF)” competition at La Prime Plaza Hotel , Denpasar, Bali, on Friday (27/7).

Winning the overall championship, PSMUnpad managed to excel from 146 different choir groups from 16 countries, such as Latvia, Canada, Lithuania, the Philippines, South Korea, China, and several other countries.

Launched from unpadchoir.com, before getting into the prestigious Grand Prix round of the competition, PSM Unpad first won in the category “Champion of Mixed Choir”. In addition to the overall champion, PSM Unpad also received “Special Jury Award of Excellent Program”, as well as “Special Jury Award of Excellent Conductor” award for Unpad PSM conductor Arvin Zaenullah.

In that competition, PSM Unpad brought three songs with different musical characters and themes to show their full performance. In the first song, PSM Unpad performed the composition of Ah, Dolente Partita by Claudio Monteverdi. This song was performed with soul and feeling.

In the second song, PSM Unpad delivered the composition of Readymade Alice by Perttu Haapanen which was performed by rhythmic. In the last song, PSM closed the performance by bringing the composition of Hentakan Jiwa by composer Ken Steven, attractively and lively.

“Unpad PSM had the opportunity to join a competition in Indonesia where the choir was less popular and appreciated. However, this time I feel very appreciated and warm welcame of the audience so warm, “said Arvin Zaenullah.

Maria Guinand, one of the judges in the Mixed Choir Championship category BICF 2018 said that the performance of PSM Unpad was considered very good.

“The interpretation and intonation were very good, as well as the performance is full of enthusiasm and love,” commented the jury from Venezuela.

By achieving this prestigious achievement, Arvin expected regeneration of successors of PSM Unpad would achieve the next years competitions. “Hopefully, PSM Unpad will be able to show entertaining performances so that can be appreciated more by the audience,” said Arvin. *
