Internationalization As Efforts to Encourage and Improve Quality of Higher Education

It was said by Director Foreign Cooperation Subdirectory Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Purwanto Subroto, PhD., during the Workshop of Strategic Marketing for Higher Education’s International Programs at Bale Rumawat, Unpad, Jln. Dipati Ukur No. 35 Bandung, Wednesday (10/11).

“It takes various preparation to essentially improve quality, such as the internationalization, to be prepared with good human resources, with a good program, and great networking. To reach the goal, a lot of college programs that indirectly improve the quality,” said Purwanto.

Through internationalization, students will be encouraged to get ready for the global world. In addition, with the increasing number of international students in a college, it is expected increase interaction between students at home and abroad, in order to improve the quality of students.

“With the increasing number of foreign students, it will also introduce universities in Indonesia in the eyes of the world,” added Purwanto.

Purwanto admitted that not all college is ready for internationalization. To that end, Kemenristekdikti has set up several programs to encourage the internationalization of higher education. The preparation done through the establishment of a special unit in the college regarding international affairs is to promote international programs, and the holding of an international research consortium.

According to Purwanto, an indicator of college readiness in the internationalization of can be seen from the number of foreign students studying, international publications, and international cooperation are carried out. To get to the international, Purwanto also said that the need to improve the quality of human resources, infrastructure, and promotion.

In addition to Purwanto, the event also featured former Head of the International Office USM Malaysia, Prof. Dr. Jani Anees Ali, Regional Marketing Manager of Recruit, Place and Train (RPT), Ltd, Singapore, Ehsan Khodayari, MBA, and Director of Shelton College International, Singapore, Patrick Hogan as speakers. These speakers deliver material about the marketing strategy for the international program at the college. *
