Local Animal Resources Development Must Pay Attention to Ecosystem Compliance

[Unpad.ac.id, 16/11/2016] Local livestock resources can be developed for the benefit of society, which in turn will be in accordance with what is expected in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In development it must be environmentally friendly, i.e. based on the sustainable development of animal husbandry.

“The development of animal husbandry and animal health will be conducted with the pattern of sustainable development, which means that an effort management and conservation of livestock resources that include land, water, and animal genetic resources. The technological and institutional engineering will achieve the necessary food needs on an ongoing basis,” said Head Artificial Insemination Lembang Ir. Tri Harsi, MP as Keynote Speaker at the 8th National Seminar on Sustainable Development of Animal Husbandry at Bale Sawala, the Rector Jatinangor Building, Wednesday (16/11).

In addition, Tri also revealed that the resource development of local livestock must consider the suitability of the ecosystem or the local environment (specific location), employment opportunities for residents, increase the income of farmers, using the input low production, the principle of recycling, and linked to the future (upstream) and backward (livestock processing industry).

The government has determined that there are 65 local livestock clumps that can be developed. Clumps of local livestock are the main source for the public food supply, poverty alleviation, employment, raw materials for industry, expanding exports, and preventing urbanization.

Besides Tri, also attended as a speaker at this seminar are Prof. Dr. Ir. Muladno, MSA from Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Bogor Agricultural University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Drs. M. Munandar, MS from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Universitas Padjadjaran, and Agus Abdurahman as chairman of HIPPAPI West Java.

The event was held by the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Universitas Padjadjaran, and was opened by the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs Unpad, Dr. Arry Bainus, M.A., accompanied by Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Unpad Prof. Dr. Ir. Husmy Yurmiati, M.S. and the Chairman of the Committee Dr. Jadon Gumilar, SPT, MM.

This event was held with the aim to produce thinking in policy decisions that favor the development of the resources of local livestock in achieving the SDGs, as well as to establish scientific communication between academics, researchers, practitioners, policy makers, and community resource development of local livestock in achieving the SDGs.

“The total paper presented are 153 titles, of 107 titles presented in oral presentation and 46 titles presented as poster,” said Dr. Jajang. *
