Awaiting “Epicentrum” Contributions for Communication Problems in Indonesia

[Unpad.ac.id, 21/11/2016] Faculty of Communication Sciences (Fikom) Universitas Padjadjaran held event entitled “Epicentrum: Padjadjaran Communication Festival 2016” at the area campus Fikom Unpad, Jatinangor, 21-24 November 2016. This event was held on cooperation between student councils from all study program in Fikom Fikom Unpad.

Chairman of activities, Nathania Sarah, said that the communication event was attended by participants from 14 universities in Indonesia and 2 High School of Jakarta and Purwakarta. With the theme “The Super Power of communication”, these activities were expected to contribute to the various problems that occurred in Indonesia.

“We invite the enthusiasm of science communication in Indonesia to collaborate through seminars, workshops, and competitions,” said Nathania the opening ceremony in the auditorium of the Graduate Auditorium Fikom Unpad, Monday (21/11).

The opening was attended by the Dean of Communication Faculty, Padjadjaran University, Dr. Dadang Rahmat Hidayat, S. Sos., SH, M.Sc., Vice Dean, Manager and Lecturer in Faculty of Communication Sciences Unpad, as well as the participants of Epicentrum activities.

The activities consisted of seminars, workshops, and competitions which is a combination of activities 5 courses in Communication Faculty Unpad, namely: OlymPRday and Public Relations Student Forum (PR); Parade of Journalism, Millenials Paper, and Mediamorfosis (Journalism); Diginomics Seminar, Workshop “Ideation” (Communication Management), as well as seminars Public Library, and the library concept contest “Liblicious (Information and Library Science). This activity is a total prize of US$ 4,800. In addition, this activity will also hold pageants of Faculty of Communications.

The 14 colleges participant activity were from Universitas Padjadjaran, Universitas Brawijaya, Universitas Kristen Petra, Kalbis Institute, Bandung Institute of Technology, University of Atma Jaya Yogyakarta, Airlangga University, Sunan Gunung Jati, State University of Surabaya, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah University of Diponegoro, Universitas Indonesia , Gadjah Mada University, and the University of Widya Mandala. Meanwhile schools participating are from SMAN 1 Purwakarta and SMAN 88 Jakarta.

The series of activities Epicentrum officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences Unpad, Dr. Dadang Rahmat Hidayat. Dr. Dadang hoped this event not only become a competition event all participants, but it becomes a process of interaction between human relationship and communication involved in this activity.

Furthermore Dadang explained that there are various problems that Indonesia is basically originated from communication problems. To that end, participants are expected to perform diagnostic activities on various issues to find solution.

“If it can not cure the problem, at least we know how to diagnose the problem,” said Dr. Dadang.

To the participants in the activity, Dadang advised every team in upholding fairness and objectivity. He also hopes Epicentrum could be held on an ongoing basis with the scope of participants is much broader.

“Minimal, within ASEAN,” he concluded. *
