“If Indonesia aspires to go forward, the levels of innovation are taken into account. The state must pay attention to the research activities in Indonesia,” said Prof. Ocky.

Research needs to be taken in view of the research into one sub-index which is calculated in the Global Innovation Index. Based on the Global Innovation Index, Indonesia is ranked 88 of 144 countries in the world.

Meanwhile, if viewed from the Global Competitiveness Report 2015-2016 by the World Economic Forum (WEF), Indonesia’s competitiveness ranking fell to rank 37, from rank 34 last year. One Indonesia’s disadvantage was related to the readiness of the latest technology.

On the occasion, Prof. Ocky also revealed that science and technology resources currently do not provide a significant contribution to the establishment of Indonesia’s position of excellence in improving competitiveness. The ability to master the innovation market is still lacking.

“If you see the fact of research on innovation, science and technology resources have not contributed significantly to the position of Indonesia related to competitive power,” he said.

In conducting the study, researchers were required to produce output. To that end, the government has imposed a Minister of Finance Regulation No. 106 in 2016, which in 2017 will be based on research accountability output, so researchers are serious with financial accountability. It is expected that research activities in Indonesia will be better in the future.

National Seminar on Mathematics and Science in 2016, was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. Sudradjat, MS, and would be held until Friday (28/10).
