[Unpad.ac.id, 28/09/2016] Statistics Department Facutly of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Universitas Padjadjaran held an academic international seminal entitled “The 2nd International Conference on Applied Statistics and Workshop on Spatial Analysis (ICAS 2016)” in Bale Sawala Rectorate Building Jatinangor, 27 – 28 September.
Yudhie Andriyana, PhD, chief executive of ICAS 2016, said the conference was held to build strong networking and communication between students, academics, researchers, and practitioners in the field of statistics both within and outside the country. Hopefully, the strengthening of this network will improve the quality of research in the field of statistics.
One of the keynote speakers for the conference were Dr. Ir. Dicky Saromi, M.Sc., Special Staff in West Java Provincial Government. The conference also featured world statistics experts as speakers: Prof. Dr. Henk Folmer (University of Groningen), Prof. Roger S. Bivand (NHH-Norwegian School of Economics), Prof. Johan H.L. Loud (Radboud University of Nijmegen), Prof. Yudi Pawitan (Karolinska Institute), Prof. Engku M. Nazri (Universiti Utara Malaysia), Prof. Youngjo Lee (Seoul National University), Septiadi Padmadisastra, PhD (Statistics Unpad), dan Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Dedi Rosadi (Universitas Gadjah Mada).
Besides holding parallel scientific seminars and presentations, this event also held a workshop on spatial analysis with speaker Prof. Roger S. Bivand. Yudi said that the conference was attended by 166 participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, and South Korea. The workshop session was attended by 40 participants, with one participant from Malaysia.
The results of all incoming papers will be published in three journals: the AIP Conference Proceedings (selected papers), BiaStatistics Journal (ISSN registered), and ICAS Conference Proceedings (ISBN registered).
ICAS 2016 event was officially opened by Rector, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad, Tuesday (27/09) afternoon. In his speech, Rector encouraged that this conference is not only followed by practitioners in the field of statistics, but also in other scientific fields.
In the opening ceremony was also the signing of cooperation between FMIPA Unpad with Seoul National University, and FMIPA Unpad with Universiti Utara Malaysia. The signing was done by Dean of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science Unpad Prof. Dr. Sudrajat Supian, M.Sc., Prof. Youngjo Lee (Seoul National University), and Prof. Sudrajat with Prof. Engku M. Nazri (Universiti Utara Malaysia). *
