Geological Role in Natural Resources and Disaster Management

[Unpad.ac.id, 9/06/2016] Faculty of Geological Engineering (FTG) Universitas Padjadjaran held a national seminar on “Development of Natural Resources and Disaster Management” in Bale Rumawat Iwa Koesoemasoemantri Unpad Campus Jalan Dipati Ukur No. 35, Bandung, Saturday (28/05). The seminar was attended by students, academics, government officials, researchers, and industry throughout Indonesia.

As said in the release received by PR Unpad, the seminar posed a variety of issues relevant to the development of contemporary science and technology, focusing on the main discussion led to the development of the geopark area, the development of new and renewable energy resources, resource utilization and management of water, resource utilization and management oil and gas, as well as geological disaster.

The seminar was opened by Dean of FTG Unpad Dr. Vijaya Isnaniawardhani, Ir., M.T., featured two keynote speakers, namely Head of Planning and Development Agency of West Java Province Ir. Yerri Yanuar, and Professor of FTG who is also Head of Disaster and Geopark Research Center Universitas Padjadjaran Prof. Ir. Mega F. Rosana.

On the occasion, Yerri highlighted the challenges of Geological Sciences in policy development in the area of West Java. Meanwhile Prof. Mega highlighted the role of Geology in the management of natural resources and disaster for sustainable development.

The seminar was divided into several parallel oral presentations and poster sessions. At the end of the activity, the best presenter in oral and poster sessions, from both professional level and students selected from 41 papers oral presentations, and 36 poster papers was announced.

This national seminar can be a tool for researchers, professors, professionals, practitioners and students to publish, disseminate their research result, and exchanging ideas. Furthermore, this scientific meeting will be followed up in cooperation on education, research, and organizing forum discussions with several stakeholders, including: STTNas, UIR, the Geological Museum, and local government.

“The seminar is expected to provide neat atmosphere for research and build a strong, sustainable, and qualified research culture in accordance with science and technology in the development of natural resource and disaster management,” said the chairman of the committee activities, M. Barkah, ST. MT.
