UPBM Unpad Held Sosial Event Introducing Nusantara Culture to Elementary and Orphanage Children

[Unpad.ac.id, 12/04/2016] Minangkabau Culture Enthusiast Unit (UPBM) Universitas Padjadjaran held social and cultural awareness activities named “UPBM Care Project” in Jatinangor on 9-10 April 2016. These activities included four main events: Care for Hand and Dental Hygiene Children’s at SDN Cibeusi Jatinangor, Care for Environmental Hygiene by Student Activity Unit (UKM) Unpad, and Children Fun for Archipelago and Care For Not Forgetting Culture through folk songs and national anthem in Riyadhul Jannah Orphanage Jatinangor.

Chairman of UPBM Unpad, Muhammad Zaki revealed that these four activities carries the spirit of social and care for the students. “Now students have time to act and do positive things, not only lounging and hanging out aimlessly,” said Zaki.

Head of Department of Resources Development Member (PSDMO) UPBM, Delvia Idola added that each of these activities had a unique and distinct social purpose. For example, the activity in Care For Not Forgetting Culture was a step to inculcate Indonesia culture through songs to children so they love and also preserve culture from early age.

“We are introducing awareness to primary and secondary school children. We convey the reason we need to learn and know our culture especially folk songs from early age, of the meaning and message of the local song, “said Dola.

IMG_4564Meanwhile, Care for Hand and Dental Hygiene for Children event was held to teach children about the importance of maintaining cleanliness and practicing ways to clean hands and teeth correctly.

The concept of Children Fun for Archipelago was more focused fun games for children where in every game knowledge about the archipelago and the character building points were featured. While the activity of Care for Environmental Hygiene by UKM put forward the idea of cleanliness and tidiness awareness of UKM Barat headquarter. This activity featured cooperation call and joint pledge signing to maintain cleanliness.

“As a symbol, we donated trash cans and sticking stickers to all the UKM Barat, declared the pledge to always maintain cleanliness,” said Dola.

External PR of UPBM Unpad, Ferik Trianda said that present participants at the event were very enthusiastic and active. “One of the participants of the orphanage named Shura Jannah Riyadul actively asked and wondered about the folk songs in Indonesia. She was very pleased with our visit,” said Ferik.*
