[Unpad.ac.id, 29/03/2016] Rector Universitas Padjadjaran, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad expressed appreciation to medalist students in National Student Science Week (Pimnas) in 2014 and 2015 in Bale Salawa, Rector Building, Campus Jatinangor, Monday (28/03). During the event, Rector also briefed of 5 funded Sector of PKM in 2016.

“For those with accomplishments, congratulations. Hopefully you can pass it or scaling up your friends. For those who started taking PKM to 2016, be serious, “said Rector.

Rector instructed the students to further develop the potential and self-existence, more than Pimnas event. Students with academic ability are expected to give a significant contribution to society.

“What people expect is direct contribution of our academic abilities implementation,” said Rector.

Therefore, the beginning of research is done in response to problems arising from the public. Students are also expected to start familiarizing themselves with various phenomena existing in the community, identifying, and finding solution for the existing problems. Thus, results would be easily applied to society.

“If research conducted at research institutions does not begin from the challenges that exist in the community, how would the results be applied?” said Rector.

Rector also challenged students to be able to explore the problems in society, particularly in the rural area to later presented their research results abroad. Unpad will help facilitate it.

“It is important to deliver our products and convey the thoughts of our products to other countries. It will be an opportunity for you to know the developments in other countries, “said Rector.

Various approaches are expected not only at university level, but also at study program level. Research also encouraged to be interdisciplinary, so students can get to know each other disciplines.

Pimnas 1PimnasAttending the event was Vice Rector of Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Arry Bainus, MA, Director of Student Affairs and Alumni Dr. Ir. Heryawan Kemal Mustafa, M.Sc., and several lecturers/chaperones of Pimnas medalists in 2014 and 2015.

Besides appreciation, Dr. Heryawan also encouraged students who will compete in Pimnas this year, held in the Bogor Institute of Agriculture campus.

“Hopefully the closer the distance, the closer to the accomplishments we would be, for we try to be better than 2014 and 2015,” said Dr. Heryawan.

This year, the number of funded proposals Student Creativity Program (PKM) Unpad are 132 proposals, out of 913 proposals submission. The funded proposals consist of 37 PKMK, 1 PKMT, 16 PKMM, 22 PKMKC, 53 PKMPE, and 3 PKMPSH. Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences become one with the most accepted proposals of PKM groups.

“Faculty of Medicine this year has rapidly increasing PKM fund. Last year, it was only one proposal. This year it went as many as 20 proposals, the second largest after FMIPA,” said Head of Division of Student Administration Unpad, Wahyi, SIP.
