Prof. Dede Mariana: Multisector Coordination and Synergy Are Necessary to Achieve Development Targets

[Unpad.ac.id, 10/03/2016] To achieve its development goals, West Java can not be focus only by one sector, it should focus on multisector; one of them is through the role of universities, including Universitas Padjadjaran.

“A multi-stakeholder synergy is a must,” said Professor of Public Administration, Prof. Dr. Dede Mariana, M.Si as one of the speakers at the Forum Planning Agency for Research, Development and Application of Science and Technology (BP3Iptek) West Java Province in Bale Sawala, Rectorate Building, Unpad Jatinangor, Thursday (10/03).

However, the current multi-sectorial involvement is still not optimal because of the lack of coordination. Therefore, Prof. Dede suggested that certainty about responsibility is necessary so as not to rely on each other.

Unpad has developed Pentahelix concept, in which there is involvement and synergy of the five sectors, including government, business, academic, community, and media. This strategy is required in respond to global trends and needs of West Java.

Unpad also strives to encourage a number of universities in West Java, to support the government and people of West Java. According to Prof. Dede, the importance of the involvement of higher education is due to its ready resources.

“Universitas Padjadjaran, and other universities, is an abundance of resources, with everything available, “said Prof. Dede.

Some programs have also been initiated by Unpad to support the development of West Java. One is them is the Unpad Nyaah ka Jabar program to increase the number of students from West Java in Universitas Padjadjaran. At the end of their studies, students are directed to the creative and innovative research for the advancement of their respective regions.

Forum of Planning BP3Iptek West Java Province will be held until Friday (11/03). This activity is a shared space of development actors in the field of research, development, and application of science and technology in both the central, province ranked, and district/city.

This event was held to determine priority of development programs and activities in the field of research, development, and application of science and technology development planning results Regency/City and provincial OPD, OPD province or a combination, as well as to develop and refine BP3Iptek 2017 Work Plan.

Aside from Universitas Padjadjaran, several speakers attended were representatives of Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Bappenas, Balitbang Ministry of Internal Affairs, and Bappeda West Java Province. *
