Braunschweig Germany City Officials To Work Together with Unpad

[Unpad.ac.id, 19/02/2016] Universitas Padjadjaran together with Braunschweig City, Germany, have agreed to collaborate in education, culture, environment, and economy. The preliminary meeting of the cooperation was held during the meeting of official representatives of the Braunschweig City at Unpad Training Center, Jln. Ir. H. Juanda, No. 4, Bandung, Thursday (18/02) night.

From Unpad, this meeting was attended by Rector Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad, the Rector Special Staff, Vice Rector, Director, Deans of Universitas Padjadjaran, and lecturer at the Faculty of Arts, Universitas Padjadjaran. Meanwhile, from Braunschweig, Vice Mayor of Braunschweig Annegret Ihbe, Head of the Department of Economic Braunschweig Gerold Leppa, Head of Waste Association of Braunschweig Wolfgang Sehrt, Head of International Relations Braunschweig Petra Haremann, Commissioner General of Indonesia in Hamburg Sylvia Arifin, and Head of Foreign Cooperation Secretariat of Bandung Dadang Hermawan.

Sylvia said that this visit by delegation of Braunschweig was conducted in order to implement the concept of sister city of Bandung and Braunschweig. Sister City cooperation is the oldest intercity collaboration in Indonesia, since 60 years ago.

“We want to revitalize many potential cooperation between Braunschweig and Bandung,” Sylvia said during the visit.

In education aspect, said Sylvia, Braunschweig City has Technische Universität Braunschweig (TUB). Unpad was expected to cooperate with TUB in the field of student exchange, faculty exchange, and joint research programs. Sylvia also encouraged Unpad lecturers to continue their studies at TUB.

In addition, Unpad also can conduct collaborative research in field of waste management. “Braunschweig owns a good waste management system applied for farmers and power source. We encourage Unpad to develop such cooperation, “said Sylvia.

While cultural aspect, Sylvia encouraged cultural exchanges or collaborations of Indonesia and Germany. One aspect that can be done is to hold a concert collaboration.

Therefore, she hoped that Unpad through its Unit of Unpad Student Choir (PSM) could perform further collaboration with choir in Germany after successfully held in collaboration with the Rundfunkchor Berlin choir in October 2015.

In the field of economics, Lecturer of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Unpad Dr. Asep Mulyana, S.E., MCE., said that Unpad is ready to facilitate a wide range of products of SMEs in Singapore to be developed in Braunschweig.

“Unpad FEB and myself have had various cooperation projects with universities in Germany. We encourage this cooperation to be developed to Braunschweig, “said this alumni of Diplom Kooperation okonomen (MCE) of Philipps University Marburg Germany.

Another planned cooperation project, with the city of Bandung, is the development of aerospace and automobile industries. Braunschweig’s delegation had visited the aviation industry PT. Dirgantara Indonesia in Bandung to explore the possibility of partnership.

In response to the visit to Unpad, Rector said partnership of Universitas Padjadjaran and Braunschweig could support the implementation of global sustainable development patterns (SDGs)*
