[Unpad.ac.id, 29/01/2016] After commititing to develop areas of Cirebon, Indramayu, Majalengka and Kuningan (Ciayumajakuning), Universitas Padjadjaran also encouraged East Priangan Area regional development, including city of Tasikmalaya, Tasikmalaya Regency. Ciamis, Banjar, and Pangandaran Regency. The development targeted multiple aspects related to education, health, and welfare of the community.
Rector Unpad, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad, said that this step was further implementation of Unpad Nyaah ka Jabar program. He proposed this during the discussion of implementation in the Meeting of Unpad Nyaah ka Jabar program for East Priangan in Krishna Beach Hotel, West Coast Pangandaran, Thursday (28/01).
The meeting was attended by leaders and regional representatives from the city of Tasikmalaya, Tasikmalaya Regency, Ciamis, Banjar, and Pangandaran Regency. Meanwhile, from Unpad there were Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs Dr. UNPAD Arry Bainus, M.A., Vice-Rector for Governance and Resources Dr. Sigid Suseno, M. Hum., Rector Special Staff, and Deans of Unpad Faculties.
Rector stated that Unpad Nyaah ka Jabar program is not only an affirmation education programs that have been initiated since 2013. Students from 27 city/regency in West Java are encouraged to develop their region through academic sectors.
“This program should be able to make students in realizing potential of what could be developed in order to establish their region,” said Rector.
As a further implementation, Unpad Nyaah ka Jabar program will target development of quality of health, education, and the provision of strategic HR in West Java. On the health aspect, Universitas Padjadjaran encouraged graduates to serve in 27 City/Regency in West Java.
As reported previously, starting on academic year of 2016/2017 Unpad is offering free tuition for Medicine and Medicine Specialist Bachelor Degree with one condition that the students should be based within the 27 City/Regency after their graduation. This is using the format called the Padjadjaran Academic Health System, West Java (Sikap Jabar).
“This shall encourage distribution of availability of Specialist Doctors in West Java,” said Rector.
For the improvement of education sector, in several areas in West Java several campuses will be build to be Universitas Padjadjaran counterpart. With campus development in these areas, students are expected to carry out research directly related to their area.
“With campuses in the areas, research topics can be extracted directly from problems occurring locally and with the goal to improve quality of their own area,” said Rector.*
