The group was welcomed formally by the first Vice Dean of Fikom Unpad, Dr. Atwar Bajari, M.Si., and Chairman of the Department of library and information science, dra. Erwina Vienna, MA. According to Wina, their visit to Fikom this time is to explore the possibility of cooperation between the two departments.

“This visit is also related to the establishment of 2015’s ASEAN AFTA, so that Unisel and other universities in Malaysia would like to do a lot of cooperation with universities in Indonesia for every field of study,” he said.

Wina acknowledged that there are 30 Library Science departments in Indonesian universities. This is an exciting opportunity for universities in Malaysia to do cooperation. This is also confirmed by the program chairman of Library and Information Science Department of Unisel, Fadliah Davini.

Fadliah further revealed that information and library science program at Unisel was just opened in 2006, while the one in Unpad had been opened in 1984. Therefore, the visit to Unpad also served as a comparative study.

Dr. Atwar also offers a plan of cooperation between both of the universities’ Library Science programs. In addition to collaborative research and scientific publications, the cooperation can also be done through student exchange between Unisel and Unpad.

There are opportunities for Fikom students continue their studies at Unisel, and the other way around. In addition we can also send Unpad lecturers to teach for about 2 months in Malaysia and vice versa, “said Atwar.

Fadliah will follow up with further talks with Fikom. “Hopefully the implementation of such cooperation can be done as quickly as possible and of course ongoing,” he concluded.

In addition to being given a presentation about the profile of Unpad Information and Library Sciences, at the end of the event, the group was invited to tour the campus of Jatinangor. *
