[Unpad.ac.id, 18/10/2013] Fatma Nurshuma Shalawat Azh-Zahra, from faculty of communication sciences (FIKOM), was recently appointed as Indonesian representative in the 2013 Democratic and Economic Youth Summit (DEYS) in Turkey to be held on October 25-28, 2013, bringing a theme “Re-inventing Indonesia through its Non-Natural Resources Potency”

Her appointment started when she registered for the program organized by Indonesian Student Association (PPI) and submitted her paper on Indonesian tourism potentials. “I cannot just overlook the great potentials that this country has that will definitely support its economy. Sadly, they have yet to be optimized. I see that Turkey has similar potentials but already optimized and accordingly we can learn from this,” said she when interviewed at Unpad PR office in Jatinangor. It turned out that her paper received excellent review and made her chosen to represent Indonesia in the event.

Together with other PPI members in Europe and Asia, other selected participants, CEOs, and the governor of West Java Province, Zahra will attend the forum and give talk on issues covering economy and democracy. To show her best, Zahra has been studying all aspects related with the issue and having a series of discussions with many of her peers. “I will also speak on behalf of the university, so I really have to give my best,” said she.

In addition to her interest in the forum, Zahra would love very much to see what Istanbul is like and to study significant parts of Islamic history in person. So, in other words, she also carries a personal mission. “I want to make scientific comparison between Indonesian muslims and Turkish muslims and write it down in a journal. Hopefully the knowledge that I will have gained can be made useful for the society at large,” she concluded.
