This is the era of entrepreneurship: Don’t be an employee for life

[Unpad.ac.id, 26/09/2013] Currently, the number of entrepreneurs in Indonesia has reached 1.65 percent of Indonesia’s total population. But according to Social psychologists David McClelland, to become a prosperous country, a country must have a minimum of 2% of the total population of the entrepreneur. According to data for the year 2011, Indonesia has only 3.707.205 entrepreneurs, which ideally should be 4, 75 million.

It was delivered by the Assistant Deputy of education policy Affairs of cooperatives of the Ministry of HUMAN RESOURCES Development of State Deputy Cooperatives and small business Medium of the Republic of Indonesia, Rully Nuryanto, SE., MSi., when speaking at Entrepreneurial talkshow “Young–preneurs to be Socio–preneurs”. This event was organized by the Executive Board of agriculture Faculty of industrial technology Students (FTIP) on Thursday (26/09) at Bale Santika, Jatinangor.

On that occasion, Rully explained about the Growth and development of Entrepreneurship in Indonesia. According to Rully, this is the era of entrepreneurship. After graduating, students should not only look for a job. “We would like to invite students to think that there are more opportunities out there. Not only becoming an employee, but also to create jobs, “said Rully.

According to data from the directorate of higher education in 2011, the number of entrepreneurial enthusiasts among college graduates is still very low, i.e. of 6,14% of the total number. This figure is lower than the number of entrepreneurial enthusiasts among high school graduates which reached 22, 63%. The majority of college graduates prefer to work as an employee in a company.

“With the vast opportunity and various media of expression, our young generation has a tremendous potential to become entrepreneurs,” said Rully.

In Bandung, for example, the spirit of entrepreneurship is already strong. There have been a lot of people who open businesses in Bandung, especially in the field of culinary and fashion. “One tip to become an entrepreneur is to start from things we enjoy doing. It could be our hobbies or of ours particular skills,” said Rully.

Rully revealed, the Government, through the Ministry of cooperatives and SMEs in the Country this year has allocated business capital for entrepreneurial novices of Rp 54 billion or Rp 5 – 25 millions per person. This is business capital grants. Recipients are not required to return, but must have a moral responsibility in managing these funds. In addition, the entrepreneur who has successfully should also help the local community to become an entrepreneur.

In addition, Rully also reminded the importance of cooperative. Currently, there are still many students who doubt the role of cooperative. They can learn to become an entrepreneur by getting involved in a student cooperative.

Furthermore, Rully expects entrepreneurial curriculum development in Unpad.  Hopefully, Unpad can serve as a model in developing entrepreneurial skills.

In addition to Rully, acted as speaker in entrepreneurial talkshow is Tb Fiki c. Satari., SE., MM., Dipl.AE (Airplane owner Systm), Krishna, S. Ikom (the head chef and owner of Jigoku Ramen), and Pena Adiadipura (KomuniAksi initiator). This event was held as a series of FTIP Care activities from August to October.
